Matthew Sweet, along with his full band, will perform live at FTE's Back Porch Concert Series on Saturday, October 26th. Gates open at 7 PM, with the show starting at 8 PM. Sweet, known for his role in the power pop revival, rose to prominence with his 1991 platinum album Girlfriend. His blend of traditional song craft with post-punk guitar and country-rock influences made him a standout in the '90s music scene. His albums Altered Beast (1993) and 100% Fun (1995) continued his commercial success, leading to a series of top ten singles and tours. Sweet has since released several albums, collaborated with Susanna Hoffs on the Under Covers series, and recently put out his 2021 album Catspaw, where he played all instruments except the drums. Rare Birds, an Atlanta-based band known for their 70s-inspired rock, blues, and soul, will open the event. The band, formed in 2018, includes Brandon Neal, Shawn Thacker, Joe Abramson, and Andrew Cylar, with members from groups like Truckadelic and Southern Gothic.
